In 1993, Philip Morris International (PMI) opens an affiliate in Bucharest. Currently the Company employs over 900 employees.
Four years later, in November 1997, Philip Morris invested over $ 100 million in a modern factory, located in Otopeni. Cigarettes, manufactured in Otopeni meet the highest quality standards, being certified as such, by both local authorities and international bodies - ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, Larex. Today, Philip Morris Romania product portfolio consists of 38 successful brands and their extensions.
Philip Morris Romania is recognized as one of the most active corporations in community, that identifyed and sponsored important programs, namely Otopeni Social Canteen, Gavroche Centre for the Prevention of Family Abandonment, educational scholarships. The company has also sponsored Bucharest National Theatre and George Enescu Festival. Philip Morris Romania has invested more than U.S. $ 2.4 million in such projects, benefiting the community in which we operate.
Philip Morris Romania is one of the largest contributors to the state budget. In the past 11 years the company has paid over 3.2 billion dollars in excise taxes.
