British American Tobacco Announces Development Plan in Romania for Next 5 Years

"Romania is a good place for investment. It has a growing economy, talented and educated people and enjoys competitive tax rates. We are proud to contribute to Romania’s economic growth, which is the highest in the EU in 2016 and a country where unemployment has decreased. At BAT, in the last three years we’ve almost doubled our number of employees, going from 1.200 to more than 2.000 today.

Our manufacturing plant is here in Ploiești, a modern and vibrant city, friendly to investors, offering not only good infrastructure but also skilled people due to its educational facilities, especially its technical universities.

Also, the local authorities are very competitive in attracting investors and therefore supporting the local development.
This is why we are here today. To affirm our commitment to both Ploiesti and the Romanian economy.

With BAT investing in Romania continuously for 20 years now, we can say that Romania has been good for BAT. And I am proud to say that BAT has also been good for Romania.

In the past 10 years alone we have contributed with 12.5 billion EUR to the State budget. This is the equivalent of the money required to finalise the Bucharest – Brasov Highway, or to build almost 750 football stadiums like the one we have here in Ploiești throughout Romania."

Gemma Webb, General Director British American Tobacco - November 15, 2016
