Ambassador Hans Klemm Says "Buna ziua'' to Romanians

by U.S. Embassy Bucharest September 22, 2015

Newly arrived in Bucharest, Ambassador Hans Klemm introduces himself to Romanians in a YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0KPyJPhZVA

Speaking in Romanian, Ambassador Klemm says that his interest in Romania was first sparked by his university professor Matei Calinescu. In his first message to Romanians, he said that he is enchanted by the country’s culture, language and history. As an ambassador, his goal will be to strengthen the bilateral security partnership, support Romania’s adherence to the rule of law and the fight against corruption, and to expand bilateral trade and investment.

“I wish to have a fruitful and open dialogue with you in person and on-line,” the Ambassador tells Romanians.

The transcript of the video message below:

“Buna ziua! I am Hans Klemm, the new American Ambassador to Romania.

After more than thirty years of diplomatic service, I am deeply honored that President Obama chose me to represent America in Romania.

My interest in your country was first sparked by my university professor, Matei Calinescu, the distinguished and deeply missed Romanian writer and literary critic. Since then, I have been enchanted by Romania’s culture, language and history.

Today we share a vision for a Europe whole, free, and at peace. As Ambassador my goal will be to strengthen our security partnership, support your adherence to the rule of law and fight against corruption, expand bilateral trade and investment, and deepen the bonds between the people of America and Romania.

I wish to have a fruitful and open dialogue with you in person or on-line. My wife Mari and I eagerly look forward to exploring your beautiful countryside and vibrant cities, and meeting you soon.

Aşadar, pe curând!‎”
