Latest Developments Regarding the Transatlantic Trade & Investment Partnership (TTIP) and AmCham Related Events

by AmCham Romania June 2, 2015

AmCham Romania welcomes the approval on May 28 of the European Parliament Trade Committee recommendations to the Commission negotiators on the TTIP framework. A plenary vote of the Trade Committee recommendations is expected on June 10. A TTIP deal, once drawn up by EU and US negotiators, would need the backing of the European Parliament and the EU Council to enter into force. On May 28 AmCham Romania also hosted a presentation of the recent developments in the U.S. – EU negotiations on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership with the participation of Mrs. Elena Bryan, Senior Trade Representative with the U.S. Mission to the EU and Mr. Wojciech Arszewski, Director Public Affairs Central and Eastern Europe, UPS Poland.

During this meeting, discussions revealed that TTIP still lacks public awareness, in spite of increased communication, transparency and stakeholders engagement efforts by the EU Commission, but the two blocks are making progress in finding a common ground regarding the three pillars of the agreement: market access, regulatory framework and improved standards cooperation.

On May 29 AmCham President Daniela Nemoianu was one of the speakers at the "TTIP and the commercial future of the EU - Romania's expectations" organized by Aspen Institute Romania.

Relevant tools for learning more about the TTIP opportunities are in AmCham’s view two recently launched analysis on the economic impact of TTIP on Romania and a proposed country position on TTIP proposed by CRPE can be accessed online here.
