AmCham Romania Business Breakfast with Minister of Finance Ioana Petrescu

by AmCham Romania April 15, 2014

On April 15 AmCham Romania presented its tax-related priorities during the first AmCham Members’ meeting at large with the new Minister of Finance.
In AmCham’s vision, the strategic priorities that should be reflected in the tax legislation in the foreseeable future are:

  • Maintain the current flat tax, both for companies and for individuals as a key competitive element for Romania.
  •  Provide a real reform for ANAF that could ensure a proper and effective assistance for taxpayers; this reform of the fiscal system is the only efficient way that could lead to a better voluntary compliance, increasing the level of tax collection and reduce tax evasion.
  • Finalize the rewriting of the Fiscal Code and Fiscal Procedure Code at which AmCham members have intensively contributed in 2013.
  • Strengthen and expand tax incentives for activities in the field of information technology that could create jobs and maintain computer scientists in Romania, investment in research and development, creation of SMEs by young entrepreneurs, aid schemes and other similar growth strategies based on national priorities in the area of competitiveness.
  • Modernize, simplify and correlate the tax legislation in order to eliminate the breach of rules, to reduce bureaucratic barriers and the legislative inconsistencies in terms of interpretation and tax practice.
  • Reduce taxes that are detrimental for the business environment such as the special tax on constructions and the local tax on buildings.
