World Vision Continues the Fund Raising Campaign for Children in Isolated Communities

The harsh winter conditions that have plagued Romania over the past two weeks have cause major disruptions around the Southeastern corridor of the country, leaving thousands of people in perilous situations and threatening the lives of many in villages isolated by snowfall. Considering the circumstances, and the increased likelihood of flooding in the next few weeks as snow starts melting, World Vision Romania has launched a humanitarian relief campaign, along with a fundraising effort to support field interventions.

The humanitarian relief campaign started last week with the distribution of food, blankets, warm clothing and shoes to more than 1500 individuals, most of them children. This campaign took place in the counties of Constanta, Ialomita, Dolj, Valcea, Vaslui, Cluj and Brasov. Due to persisting snowfalls and impaired access to many other isolated communities outside the mentioned area of intervention, World Vision will be expanding its area of relief. In the first phase, distribution of aid will be focused in Buzau county, followed by an expansion into Vrancea county and other areas deemed at risk. The distribution process will be coordinated via staff on ground and accomplished in collaboration with public and private partners. Aid beneficiaries will be identified in collaboration with local village councils and community stakeholders.

Because of the spread and depth of the relief work, World Vision Romania is working to identify further potential private and institutional funding. At this time, our target is to raise 75,000 Euros to help meet the need of more than 5,000 individuals.
