Flextronics Expands Timisoara Facility to Include Dedicated Medical Operation

Flextronics (NASDAQ: FLEX) today announced that it has expanded its facility in Timisoara to include a dedicated medical operation to better serve medical equipment and medical disposables original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) globally.
The expansion, which includes a newly refurbished production area and 1300 square meters of class-eight clean room, increases existing manufacturing capabilities and allows Flextronics to provide a complete portfolio of manufacturing services and competitive solutions from a single strategic location in Eastern Europe.
The investment amounts to $3.6 million and will generate 350 highly skilled new jobs.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Adrian Streinu-Cercel, State Secretary, the Ministry of Health, Mircea Băcală, Prefect of Timiș county, Adrian Orza, Vice-Mayor of the city of Timișoara, Bill Flaherty, President Flextronics Medical, Tzahi Rodrig, Senior Vice-president, EMEA and South America, Radenko Prnja, Vice-president and General Manager, Flextronics Timișoara, Anca Harasim, Executive Director AmCham, top representatives of the business community, journalists from central and local media.
“Flextronics operates the largest medical device and disposables products manufacturing operation in Eastern Europe and we are very happy to expand our service offering to EMEA and global medical customers,” said Bill Flaherty, president of Flextronics Medical. “Our investment reflects our expanding medical customer base, highly skilled workforce and growth opportunities in emerging markets for medical equipment and medical disposables products such as IV sets, gastric bands, tube sets and accessories. Globally, Flextronics Medical has a strong, dedicated medical team that includes more than 300 design engineers. The team’s focus is on providing world-class design, manufacturing and logistics services to Medical OEMs in five sectors that include: drug delivery (insulin pumps, human grown hormone delivery devices); consumer health (blood glucose meters, laser skin treatment and laser hair removal devices); disposable products (single-use sterile devices, heart catheters, guide catheters, wound care products); imaging and monitoring (magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography scan equipment); and life sciences (laboratory equipment).
