Invitation to Support JTI's Earthquake Relief Efforts

Dear AmCham Members,
It is an honour for me to invite you attending a charity event, of a major significance for JTI.
As we all know, this year on March 11th, an earthquake measuring 9 on the Richter scale occurred near Tohoku area of Japan. The massive earthquake was soon followed by a devastating Tsunami resulting in the nuclear disaster from Fukushima.
I am sure that all of us here today remember the horrific images that were transmitted around the world at that time.
Most impressive, to me personally, was the dignified calm and the quiet determination demonstrated by the Japanese people confronted by their loss.
At the beginning of October 2011, new statistics were published on the official earthquake-report website. The information relates the consequences and the direct impact of the multiple disasters on Japan. Dead people: 15.815; disappeared persons: 3.966; destroyed buildings: over 1.000.000; economic impact: 610 billion USD.
Despite the immense suffering, impossible to be expressed in numbers, the Japanese people proved gentleness and discreetness, force and desire for recovery.
At the end of March, when televisions still transmitted terrifying images from the cataclysm place, I was approached by some very special people, including Razvan Mazilu.
They thought of a way we could evoke and pay tribute to the suffering of those people living far from us, but with whom we want to be united. The result of our meeting is what we all share in this moment together, an artistic event, a thoughtful way to remember the suffering, to respect it. And, I do believe, a way to inspire confidence and trust for the future, for everybody.
We invite you to be a part of this way.
“Requiem. You know nothing about me” is a unique performance, staged for the first time in Romania, celebrating the natural cycle of life, death and rebirth.
The performance, choreographed by Razvan Mazilu on a music by Karl Jenkins, honours the memory of those disappeared, the pain of those left behind and builds confidence for the time ahead.
“Requiem. You know nothing about me” is played by two of the most appreciated artists, the soloist Motoko Hirayama and Razvan Mazilu.
Motoko Hirayama is a professional dancer, choreographer and associated professor at Tsukuba University, a highly esteemed artist in Japan.
Razvan Mazilu is considered the complete artist, the man who imposed and popularised the contemporary dance and dance-theatre in Romania.
The Requiem performances will be held in Bucharest on 25, 26, 27 November, in Craiova on 29th of November, in Sibiu on the 30th of November, in Cluj on the 1st of December and in Timisoara on the 3rd of December. The tickets prices are 30 lei and 50 lei.
All funds obtained as a result of organizing the shows will be directed to the Japanese Disaster Relief Fund, opened by the JTI Foundation.
Any ticket purchased will be an important contribution to our approach. Until November 15, our colleague Talida Giambasu (talida.giambasu@jti.com, phone number: 021 20 43 256) will reserve the desired number of tickets. After this date, you can purchase tickets from the theatrical agencies or in the Eventim network, at Germanos, Domo, Vodafone, Orage shops, Humanitas, Carturesti bookstores, and online on www.eventim.ro
