The American Chamber of Commerce in Romania (AmCham Romania), presented its advocacy priorities in an end of year meeting with the media on December 7, 2010.
AmCham Romania emphasized the current negotiations for the next EU Financial Perspective 2014-2020 and the need for Romania to have a related official position, given the significant impact of the key principles under negotiation on our country’s financial package.
“This is, in our view, after the pre-accession period, Romania’s opportunity to actively engage in supporting a balance competitiveness matrix at the EU level, and AmCham members are willing to support the responsible authorities in substantiating a national position in line with Romania’s objectives for development” opinioned Sorin Mîndruţescu, AmCham Romania President. The major stake for Romania is not only the position of net beneficiary in relation with the EU budget but also to participate in the definition of the priorities for the EU budget allocations.
AmCham also called for coherent efforts to strengthen Romania’s competitiveness in the region and at the EU level, and reiterated the acute need for structural reforms in areas such as labor and fiscal systems, central elements for both Romania’s economic recovery and its increased attractiveness for foreign investments.
AmCham’s priorities for the fiscal reform include the modernization of the fiscal legislation and of the fiscal administration. As concerns the labor market, AmCham welcomes the current revision of the labor code and of the legislation governing the unions, employers’ associations, labor conflicts resolution, collective bargaining, and pleads for a genuine consultation process, free of electoral pressures, around this essential legislation.
AmCham Romania will continue to advance its priorities and recommended solutions to the authorities, and to militate for transparency in the decision-making process, legislative and economic stability and predictability, the prerequisites of a healthy business climate.
