In line with its previous position documents, the American Chamber of Commerce in Romania (AmCham Romania) submitted to the Romanian Prime-Minister and Minister of Finance technical observations regarding the Letter of Intent to the IMF and announced changes in the fiscal system.
On this occasion AmCham Romania reiterates the importance of genuine consultations with the private sector initiated by the authorities before adopting measures with high impact on the economy, without excepting urgent measures.
In AmCham’s opinion any changes in the fiscal policies must aim both overcoming the economic crisis and ensuring a stable and favourable business environment in order to retain current investors as well as to attract new investments in the economy.
To this end, AmCham Romania recommends to the authorities to maintain the fiscal regime as a very important component of our country’s overall competitiveness, especially as neighbouring countries are using fiscal tools to tackle the effects of the economic crisis.
Concerning the objectives of fighting the fiscal evasion, AmCham Romania recommends measures for improving the efficiency of controlling authorities in detecting fiscal fraud, and emphasizes that in the absence of modern, integrated IT systems for processing and using the information, the permanent increase of reporting and compliance will only have a limited effect in fighting the fiscal evasion, while raising the bureaucratic and administrative burden for good payers.
AmCham Romania will continue to militate for adopting firm measures for economic recovery, a flexible labor market, modernization of the fiscal system and a responsible behavior of the decision-makers. AmCham Romania members are willing to support such measures by providing to the authorities their expertise accumulated in the local and international business environment.
