The American Chamber of Commerce in Romania (AmCham Romania) has organized the Annual General Meeting and the elections for the new Board of Directors and Auditing Committee, on March 24.
The members of the new Board of Directors have appointed Sorin Mîndruțescu (Oracle Romania) as AmCham President, while Cristian Colțeanu (GE International) and Friedrich Niemann (Athenee Palace Hilton) will be the Vice-Presidents and Shahmir Khaliq (Citibank) Treasurer for the 2010-2011 mandate.
Following the elections in March, the AmCham Board of Directors also includes: Patrick Desbiens (GlaxoSmithKline), Radu Enache (Hewlett-Packard), Mihai Tudor (IBM), Bill Bowman (KPMG), Manuela Nestor (NNDKP), Ionuț Simion (PricewaterhouseCoopers) și Petr Sichrovsky (Xerox Romania).
“I am honored by this distinction, and along with my fellow Board Members, we will continue to advance the recommendations and advocacy objectives of the previous mandate, as well as the Priorities for Romania, which in AmCham’s vision should be overcoming the crisis and relaunching the economy, building relevant competitive advantages in the region, ensuring a stable and transparent investment environment, bridging the infrastructure gap, building a modern education system, and a sustainable healthcare system”, declared Sorin Mîndruțescu, AmCham Romania President.
Attending the opening section of the AmCham Annual Meeting, President Traian Băsescu thanked AmCham for the “300 AmCham member companies have faced the economic crisis in 2009, they are still struggling the effects of the crisis in the first months of 2010, and in spite of all these, they have maintained in Romania more that 150.000 jobs. Also, as reflected by the Committees’ Report, AmCham was the most efficient partner of the Romanian Government for amending legislation, as well as strategies in various sectors of the government’s activity”.
President Băsescu has expressed its confidence that our country will overcome the economic crisis, based on last year’s economic performances, and on estimations for this year. The President also reviewed priority sectors for reform, including agriculture, education, state structures, energy systems, and healthcare.
AmCham will remain dedicated to its mission of facilitating members’ dialogue with the Romanian authorities, providing its members’ expertise and solutions for an improved legislative, implementation and control framework, and access to international best practices.
