NEW U.S. VISA APPLICATION FORM GOES GREEN

03/17/2010 I Source U.S. Embassy Bucharest

The Embassy of the United States in Bucharest announces the introduction of the new Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC) and form DS-160. The new form DS-160 will be required of all non-immigrant visa applicants beginning April 1 and has several advantages over the existing application forms.

The DS-160 is a single, internet-based application form which will be used by all applicants seeking a visa for a temporary visit to the United States. The comprehensive form features online translations which will be available in Romanian in early April as well as the ability for applicants to upload their own photograph directly onto the application form.

The DS-160 replaces the forms DS-156, DS-157 and DS-158. Additionally, once completed online, the form is electronically transmitted directly to the Consulate for processing. Applicants then only print the single confirmation page to take with them to their interview – thus saving thousands of pages of paper each month. Appointments will still be made using the call center and fees will continue to be paid at Banca Transilvania branches throughout Romania.

The new CEAC and the form DS-160 may be found on the Embassy’s website at: http://romania.usembassy.gov/visas/non-immigrant.html. There is also a slide show presentation on the website with instructions on how to complete the comprehensive application form as well as instructions on photograph quality and frequently asked questions for the completion of the form. In addition, the site now features frequently asked questions (FAQs) about visa eligibility.

Questions which are not addressed on the website may be addressed to the Consulate through e-mail (visasbucharest@state.gov), fax (021 200 3381), or by telephone (021 200 3300) Monday through Friday from 2 pm to 5 pm.
