On the occasion of its 15th anniversary the American Chamber of Commerce in Romania (AmCham Romania) organized a special gala event that brought together representatives of the business community, AmCham member companies, business partners as well as authorities. HE Traian Basescu, Romanian President, HE Calin Popescu Tariceanu, Prime-Minister and HE Nicholas F. Taubman, U.S. Ambassador to Romania had accepted AmCham’s invitation as well.
“First of all, I would like to congratulate AmCham for its 15 years of activity in Romania. During this period, Romania has changed, and AmCham’s role in this transformation cannot be neglected” declared the Romanian President Traian Băsescu.
Prime-Minister Călin Popescu Tăriceanu emphasized the contribution of the business community in the economic development of our country: “ I am here today out of respect for the tens of thousands of jobs that depend on your daily activity”.
“This is not just a celebration of AmCham – it is a celebration of the tremendous progress of Romania itself over this last decade and a half”, said U.S. Ambassador Nicholas F. Taubman.
Within the event entitled „A vision on Romania”, AmCham has presented its priorities for Romania, as identified by the business community it represents - priorities that will be reflected in the working agenda of the organization. Amongst others these include: to increase Romania’s attractiveness for investment, to develop a competitive knowledge and competence based educational system, to improve the infrastructure, as well as the healthcare system which should ensure an increased access to quality medical services.
Alexandra Gatej, President of the AmCham Romania Board of Directors, declared: „We express the firm commitment to provide our members’ expertise. Along with the willingness of the decision-makers to adopt coherent policies and the implementation of necessary mechanisms, we can turn our vision on Romania into a reality that we could all benefit from.”
The American Chamber of Commerce in Romania, established in 1993 by 22 U.S. companies doing business in Romania, has today 300 members – American, international and local companies – and is affiliated to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the European Council of American Chambers of Commerce.
Along its 15 years of activity in Romania, AmCham has represented the interests of the business community in the dialogue with the authorities, has actively militated for the observance of the stability and predictability principles both at the legislative and fiscal level, and has called for the continuation of the reform process to increase Romania’s economic competitiveness.
