Bucharest, April 15, 2008: The newly elected Board of Directors of the American Chamber of Commerce in Romania (AmCham Romania) has announced the organization’s main objectives for 2008, following the Annual General Meeting at the end of March.
In order to increase the swiftness of the decision-making process as well as a stronger focus on improved membership services, AmCham’s leadership structure now also includes an Executive Committee, consisting of the President, Mrs. Alexandra Gatej, the two Vice-Presidents, Mr. Friedrich W. Niemann and Mr. Peter de Ruiter as well as the Treasurer, Mr. Peter Weiss.
Alexandra Gatej, the AmCham Romania President, expressed her confidence that this board of directors will consolidate the dynamic presence that the organization has built within its 15 years of activity in Romania: “We intend to carry out an active consultation process with the authorities which will provide members a forum for advancing their business needs, and to contribute to the improvement of the business environment in Romania, as well as our country’s competitiveness, especially in the context of an intensified competition at a regional and global level”.
Mrs. Gatej, Chairman of Unilever South Central Europe has been a member of the AmCham Board since 2006 and she is the second Romanian president of the organization.
The new board of directors has identified four main objectives for AmCham’s activities, which include:
- Consolidating AmCham’s position as leading promoter of the business community in Romania, through ensuring a constant dialogue with the authorities. AmCham will continue to carry out a consistent advocacy activity through its working groups that bring together experts in the various fields of interest and specialized in areas such as taxation ICT, health care, energy, environment, competition, labor, education, etc.
This year, AmCham’s main advocacy objectives will focus among others on finalizing the Investment Law - a necessary legislative framework to attract investments, as well as contributing to a transparent and competitive environment.
- Building advocacy coalitions with other business associations. AmCham thus intends to maximize the impact and efficiency of the dialogue with the authorities.
- Intensifying AmCham’s presence in important economic centers outside Bucharest, such as Cluj, Timisoara, Iasi or Constanta.
- A qualitative improvement of services for members through extending our agenda so that it reflects all business interests our members are experiencing.
The American Chamber of Commerce in Romania will continue to be a leading promoter of the business opportunities in our country and a supporter of Romania’s economic competitiveness through actively militating for the observance of the legal and fiscal stability and predictability, as well as for continuing the reform process.
