Bucharest, March 26, 2008 – The members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Romania (AmCham Romania) have elected a new Board of Directors during the Annual General Meeting, called yesterday. Following the elections, the Board of Directors unanimously elected Mrs. Alexandra Gatej (Chairman, Unilever SCE ) as new President of AmCham Romania.
The new AmCham Romania Board of Directors consists of Alexandra Gătej, Unilever SCE – President, Friedrich W. Niemann, Athenee Palace Hilton and Peter de Ruiter, PricewaterhouseCoopers - Vice-presidents , Peter Weiss, ABN AMRO Bank – Treasurer and John Hays, Citigroup, Călin Drăgan, Coca-Cola HBC, Cristian Colțeanu, General Electric, Mihai Tudor, IBM, Silviu Hotăran, Microsoft Romania, Sorin Mindrutescu, Oracle Romania, and Anda Todor, Salans, as Board Members.
“I am honored be elected in this position, and, on behalf of the new Board of Directors I would like to take this opportunity to express our firm commitment in promoting the business interests of our member companies. At the same time we will contribute to a developed business environment for increasing our country’s economic competitiveness. I am confident that together with the newly elected Board of Directors we will frame a working agenda so that AmCham’s voice will have a higher impact on the business environment, through the added value provided by our members’ expertise” said the New AmCham Romania President, Alexandra Gatej.
AmCham Romania will promote the interests of the international business community in Romania, and expand its dialogue with authorities to encourage transparency and a level playing field for all investors.
2008 Perspectives
Set up in 1993 by 22 American companies with operations in Romania, AmCham is today a strong organization representing over 270 companies. In its 15th year, AmCham Romania aims for a continued growth, through an active promotion of good corporate practices, development of member services, and close collaboration with strategic partners such as AmCham EU, the European Council of American Chambers of Commerce as well as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
AmCham’s objectives for 2008 also include advocating for the finalizing of the legal framework necessary for stimulating investments in Romania. AmCham Romania is currently working with other six business associations in drafting an improved version of the Investment Law, to be submitted to the Prime-Minister.
The New President of the AmCham Board of Directors reaffirmed that AmCham, through active consultations , is committed to continue its support for a transparent dialogue with the authorities and the leaders of the business environment, in order to ensure a healthy business environment.
